Rumors of a declining Tennessee Titans receiving corps have been exaggerated.

One of the former members of the two-tone blue, Corey Davis, got a raw deal for most of his time with the Tennessee Titans which is why it was so satisfying to see him break out and have a fantastic season in 2020.

The early part of his career was marred by injuries that were kept quiet or downplayed because of his toughness, but playing under a string of poor offensive play-callers, inconsistent play at the quarterback position, and a low volume passing attack that was never going to help him add to his receiving total.

That last part is especially important because to this day people will use the argument that Corey Davis has never topped 1,000 receiving yards in a season as a reason why they don’t believe he has lived up to his first-round pedigree.

Smart Tennessee Titans fans have argued that in a low-volume passing offense, the stat to keep an eye on is yards per target instead of total yards. Over the course of Corey Davis’s four-year career, his yards per target have been on a steady incline (5.8, 8.0, 8.7, 10.7).

Something else to consider is even though Corey Davis had nearly as much production in 2018 as he did in 2020, the most recent version of Davis felt much more dangerous than the 2018 version.

Why would the Tennessee Titans let such an important player walk in free agency then? Why didn’t they invest a lot to replace him? Those are great questions. Here are your answers.
