Practical: Alex Leatherwood, Tackle, Alabama

Offensive linemen are the auto insurance of the draft world. A necessity? Yeah, maybe. But in a perfect world, we would be spending our money on a shiny new toy– not something so… boring.

But, we don’t live in a perfect world, at least not yet. You, me, and the Tennessee Titans are still all subject to reality. And the reality of the situation is, the Titans last draft season felt it necessary to use their first-round draft pick to select an offensive tackle. And not to rehash bad memories, but, that one didn’t work out so well.

The old saying goes, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. So if it is broke, it’s probably time to find a fix for it fast. Alabama product Alex Leatherwood could be that fix. And the best thing about Leatherwood is that he might be ready to take the field from day one.

Leatherwood, the 22-year old senior, is moving on from the college game with essentially every accolade a person could earn at his position. He’s a winner of the Outland Trophy for best offensive lineman in the country, a first-team All-American, and a national champion if that means anything to anyone.

Unlike some ‘unnamed recent Tennessee Titans first-round offensive line draft picks’, Leatherwood has more to his resume than worlds of potential. He’s not a project pick, he’s a known quantity. And for the Titans, coming off a season where they propelled Derrick Henry to 2,000 rushing yards, bolstering the offensive line with a player like Leatherwood could be a high priority– even if it is a bit boring of a pick.
