Do the Tennessee Titans have $30 million in cap space?

Another move coming for Titans?

The Tennessee Titans have spent a big chunk of this offseason cutting players, presumably for cap reasons. However, they may be sitting on more money than we thought.

Right now the consensus is that the Titans have somewhere between $14-12 million in cap space, and that is without the official numbers on Jackrabbit Jenkins and Josh Reynolds. However, that is a much different number than what the NFLPA presented today.

On the NFLPA’s salary cap report, the Titans have $28.3 million in cap space.

That is…a lot more than we thought.

According to them, Tennessee has the 12th most cap space of any team in the NFL.

Now, I honestly don’t have any idea why there is such a big disconnect between the NFLPA’s numbers and the rest of the projections out there. However, no one is more connected than the NFLPA who should have access to every single contract that the NFL signs.

Assuming that this is correct, it could mean some pretty interesting things from the Titans during this free agency period.

There are still quite a few free agents left unsigned, including several pass rushers, wide receivers, defensive linemen, and offensive linemen that the Titans could sign to make this team much better. And if you think Tennessee is done, think again because there is actually a reason to think that more moves might be coming soon.

Jim Wyatt concluded his mailbag this week, with this question and answer:

"Andy Stambene from Lethbridge, Alberta, CanadaQuestion: Wow, this off season has been a roller coaster ride. Thought the Titans would add some players but didn’t think they would lose a whole bunch of them and have more released, but I guess that’s what happens in CoVid-19 crazy times. Would have liked to see the Titans retain Jonnu Smith and Corey Davis…really like the signing of Bud Dupree, and the DE/DT Denico Autry though! The Defense needed some starters with pop to go with the other gems we have! It was good to see the Titans sign Jayon Brown even if it was for 1 year. The Lamm signing was a good one I think. The release of Kelly and Jackson surprised me as did the Vaccaro and Butler releases. I guess that’s where the Titans will draft I’m thinking…either a CB or WR with the 1st rounder if the Titans keep it or decide to move down and garner more picks which might be the better deal! I think our draft will be CB, WR, OLB, TE, S, OL and DL! I see multiple selections of DB’s and WR’sJim: Hey Andy. It’s been a wild ride for sure. And we’re just getting started. Buckle up."

“…we’re just getting started. Buckle up.” Now, maybe that just means that the draft is coming up and that the team is still building their roster, but I’m not so sure.

With $12 million in cap space, that might seem like an empty promise, but if the Titans have nearly $30 million, then you can see why this could actually be foreshadowing.

As for which players the Titans might sign, I actually already speculated on which players the Titans might specifically look at with this 12-player list that actually included Josh Reynolds before he was signed by the team.

With more cuts coming from the rest of the NFL and players rumored to be on the trade block like Pittsburgh Steelers CB Steven Nelson and Chicago Bears WR Anthony Miller, maybe the Titans aren’t done adding starters quite yet.
