3 cheap free agent tackles the Tennessee Titans should sign
By Will Lomas
1. Jason Spriggs
Jason Spriggs is really interesting because he is a freak athlete and he is still very young.
It is rare to find big, athletic tackles for cheap on the open market, but it looks like that is what is going to happen here. And not only is Spriggs athletic, but he is versatile and has played guard and both tackle spots in his five-year stint in the NFL.
In a zone blocking scheme like the one the Titans have used so effectively over the last few years, being able to have your tackle hook the EDGE without help from a tight end, or having your tackle go up to the second level and seal linebackers on the backside are things that turn 3-yard runs into 15-yard runs.
I remember being concerned about his weight coming out of college, but if he has managed to stick around in the NFL this long then he is either finding ways to win as a skinny tackle, or he has added what he needs to add.
Out of this entire group, I think that Spriggs is the guy who could come in on a one-year deal and either compete to be the eventual starter like Dennis Kelly, or who could just be one of the best swing tackles in the NFL.
Either way, this is the guy who the Titans should be watching closely at the right price.
