Offense

Jonnu Smith, TE

This is great news for Jonnu Smith. After Arthur Smith was promoted to OC in 2019, Todd Downing took the job coaching tight ends.

Call it coincidence or good timing, but that is also the time when Jonnu Smith took a massive leap forward from “unpolished liability” to “impact player”. Normally you would assume that had more to do with his position coach calling the plays, but this hire shows that maybe Downing deserves more credit than we initially gave him.

Now that Smith’s coach is calling plays, it is fair to assume that he is going to want his guy back in the fold even more than Arthur Smith might have.

Corey Davis, WR

Again, more good news.

If the driving force behind promoting Downing was continuity, then it is hard to understand how that continuity wouldn’t involve Corey Davis. Keep in mind, that Davis was the Titans’ leading receiver until the second half of the final game of the season.

He’s young, productive, and he does the little things like blocking and selling routes that offensive coordinators love to talk about.
