11. Jayon Brown, LB

This is someone who we could look back at and realize that I was way too low on at this point in time.

I have always been a Jayon Brown believer and there were several times this offseason where I thought he and Rashaan Evans were going to develop into the best young LB tandem in the NFL. Not only was I wrong about that, those two have been non-existent for most of the season.

The one positive on Brown is that he seems to be improving in the last two weeks. Against the Steelers, he had 4 tipped passes including the one in the picture above that bounced right into Amani Hooker’s hands for a crucial red-zone interception that gave the Titans a chance to win that game late.

In Cincinnati, he was the only linebacker making any plays and he looked like he was getting closer to being his rangy self again.

That is all great news for Brown, but the problem is similar to what is going on with Clowney. Speedy off-ball linebackers are an expensive commodity right now and even if he had a bad season this year, teams are going to make excuses for him (right or wrong) and he is going to get a big contract from a team that can’t stop running backs or tight ends.

I thought that Brown was a building block of this team for a long time, but after missing a lot of time last season and a lackluster performance through eight weeks in 2020, I just don’t know if he is someone that deserved a contract more than Jack Conklin did last year who I use as the bar for whether or not a player should get a new deal.
