18. Denver Broncos (-3)

The Denver Broncos are in a really interesting spot and I probably should have hit them harder in these power rankings. Why? Because over their next four games they play teams with a combined 9-16 record in the Atlanta Falcons, Miami Dolphins, L.A. Chargers, and Las Vegas Raiders.

It isn’t crazy to think that the Broncos could go 3-1 during that stretch and they could be 5-5 right in the thick of things in the AFC playoff race.

That is the good news. The bad news is that they dropped in these rankings because of the beatdown that they took from the Chiefs that really looked like it could be a game until Drew Lock through a pick-six and then proceeded to have what is probably the worst game of his career.

I don’t know if Lock is the answer, but at this point, it is hard to say that he isn’t going to be central to the plan going forward. We will see if that is a good or bad idea.

17. Detroit Lions (+2)

Detroit, you did it! You came from behind and won a game and you did it on the arm of your franchise quarterback.

Now, you only go up two spots because you beat the Atlanta Falcons, but the good news is that Matt Patricia hasn’t lost this team yet. This momentum will be interesting to watch because the schedule for the Lions isn’t that difficult.

If Detroit does well, are they going to run it back with mostly the same team in 2021? If not, has this team done enough to stay mostly intact and just trust a new coach to improve them?

I don’t know, but suddenly the Lions are very interesting.
