3 Titans players in contract years who have earned new deals

2. DaQuan Jones, DL
Jack Crawford is the ideal backup on the defensive line, but DaQuan Jones is the ideal starter next to someone like Jeffery Simmons.
For a long time, it was Jones who made plays for other players by playing gap-sound defense and by doing the dirty work in the trenches. However, he finally has a defensive tackle next to him with the power and flexibility to play that same gap-sound defense and force running backs and quarterbacks right into his arms.
To give you an example, look at this sack from Jones. This is a play made by the trio of Simmons, Harold Landry, and Jones.
Smart football from the trio here where Jones and Simmons are playing smart football and holding their gap vs the play action. When they see it is a pass, Simmons dominates the man in front of him causing pressure.
That causes Watson to panic and run away, but Harold Landry has set the edge so Watson can’t bail out wide and Jones has started to track Watson from the backside. That effort and pursuit led to a sack credited to Jones but it really comes from three players doing a great job in tandem.
At this point in his career, Jones is a 30-year-old defensive tackle who will most likely be viewed as a two-down player who rotates out on pass-rushing downs. If that is the case, why not stay in Tennessee and get a tax free contract in a system that works well for you next to a defensive line that has some really talented players?
