We All Owe Stephen Gostkowski A Big Thank You

Here’s an absolutely insane stat: In 2019, the Tennessee Titans made a total of eight field goals through 16 games. In just one game, Sunday’s Week 3 win over Minnesota, Stephen Gostkowski nearly matched the Titans team total last season, with six makes on six attempts.

These weren’t all gimmes either. Gostkowski, the same Gostkowski who made his Titans debut with a total of four missed kicks in Week 1 (three missed field goals, one missed extra point), was crushing kicks from all over the field— including three field goals over 50 yards.

The highlight on Gostkowski’s monster day, however, was a game-winning 55-yard field goal with under two minutes to play, a kick that would prove to be the difference In Tennessee’s one-point win.

But Gostkowski didn’t just carry the Titans to a win in Week 3, he’s proven to be the difference in each game through this perfect 3-0 start to the season. He nailed the game-winner in Week 2 against Jacksonville, a kick that broke a 30-30 tie late in the fourth quarter. He even hit the game-winner in Week 1, a short kick with less than a minute remaining to give the Titans a Week 1 win against the Broncos.

Gostkowski, for as much as heat as he took after his Titans debut, has unequivocally been the MVP for Tennessee in 2020. His clutch kicking has been the difference between a 3-0 start and an 0-3 one.
