Derick Roberson

I think that Roberson has a chance to be the best pure pass rusher on the Tennessee Titans roster, and I don’t say that lightly.

We have only seen him for a few dozen plays, but despite being very raw Roberson came in and was electric off the EDGE and put up 3 sacks in 2 games and when you combine those two games with his efforts in the playoff run you end up with Roberson tallying 3 sacks, 4 TFLs and 6 QB hits despite averaging just 19 snaps per game.

I still think that he will get snaps with the Tennessee Titans, but he is now going to have to compete even harder for reps because the Titans have invested so much in the EDGE position.

On top of that, I think they want to see a lot of Harold Landry and Jadeveon Clowney together because that pairing should decide whether Clowney gets a long term deal in Tennessee or if he leaves.

Also, Roberson spent twice as many snaps on the left side of the defense as he did on the right side. Making the assumption that they are going to keep playing Harold Landry on the right side (where he played 846 snaps in 2019) which means he is in direct competition with Clowney for snaps.

Maybe Roberson is the guy who comes in and moves Clowney to his stand up position in the middle of the defense, but then that would mean you are giving a lot of money to this next man to be a 15ish snap per game player.
