Titans who got weaker on paper with Clowney.

The Tennessee Titans are undoubtedly a better team with Jadeveon Clowney than they are without him.

For Tennesse, the questions were always about cost, health and how quickly Clowney could adapt to the defense. I don’t think anyone doubted his ability to be a good player for the Titans, and even if they did it isn’t like he is going to push a 1st round talent down the roster and hinder their development.

Almost famously to conspiracy theorists (like myself) the Titans completely ignored EDGE in the 2020 NFL Draft and really only made one “big upside” type signing in free agency at the position. What is going to be hindered is the individual stats of some players.

Like it or not though, the NFL is a league driven by stats and even though the defense and the team as a whole are going to be better with Clowney, there are going to be some players whose stats suffer from another player in the mix.

Some of them are obvious, but there are two players on this list who might suffer for it when they are negotiating contracts next season. Again, I don’t think anyone will be worse players because of the Clowney signing, but just in terms of stats and being able to leverage those stats into big contracts in the future, these are some players who should be concerned.
