Wide Receiver

What they told us: The depth at wide receiver isn’t important at all, focus on body types.

The Tennessee Titans picked Cam Batson and Cody Hollister over Rashard Davis, and that move can only tell us one thing.

Mike Vrabel and his coaching staff prefer guys with certain body types instead of guys with certain skill sets.

Batson isn’t a good receiver, but he is a worse special teams player as evidenced by his NFL career stat line of three punt returns for 4 yards and a lost fumble. Despite not having the skill set to be a special teams player in the NFL, he makes the roster because he tested like a shifty guy in his workouts and he has that body type.

Similarly, Cody Hollister isn’t a great prospect but what he lacks in potential, he makes up for in body type where his 6’4 frame gives him an edge.

I wrote about him being a sleeper to make this roster, and all in all he should be the Titans 5th most used receiver, but keeping both he and Batson over a receiver with real return ability seems strange. The only thing that makes sense is that they value Batson’s testing and Hollister’s size over what we have seen on the field.
