Alex Smith, QB (on a Tannehill deal)

All news out of Washington is positive when it comes to Alex Smith, who has had one of the most difficult careers in the NFL.

According to a recent report, it looks like he might even have an outside shot at competing for the starting QB job. When talking about his health, new HC Ron Rivera was very impressed:

"“He’s looked good, he really has,” Rivera said of Smith. “It’s been exciting to watch his progression. He’s looked very fluid. It’s a tribute to who he is, a tribute to his trainers and his doctors to get to where he is today.”"

So what is the best thing for both teams here? I don’t think Washington can really think that Smith is their QB of the future and they need to see what they have in Dwayne Haskins who really didn’t get enough time last year to show if he can be anything in the NFL.

The Titans need a quarterback who can start 2+ games for them because this is a team with aspirations for a ring, and we don’t know who might test positive and trigger a two-week absence.

Depth is key, and Tennessee can like the potential of Logan Woodside and Cole McDonald, but there is no way they can really be confident in those guys to win games for them in December.

Washington could eat a cap hit and work out a deal with Alex Smith to shorten his contract to a season, similar to what the Dolphins did with Ryan Tannehill and Smith can get a season where he won’t be asked to do too much while he full heals.
