NFL Power Rankings: Steelers rise and Texans fall flat in July
By Will Lomas
24. New York Jets (finished 23)
What I said at the end of last season:
"Why are the Jets so high? Well, a few things make me think that they are going to be hovering around this 23rd spot entering next year. First of all, I think that Sam Darnold and Robby Anderson are going to stick together and I think that tandem will be alright, especially if Jamison Crowder can be a factor next year as well. I also believe that Quinnen Williams is a great prospect and the combination of him, a healthy Avery Williamson and C.J. Mosley, and Jamal Adams will make a big difference in that defense next year. I don’t think they have a lot of upside, but if you add a few offensive linemen in the draft and then go get someone like CeeDee Lamb in the draft then you will have an exciting team to watch…even if you are stuck with Adam Gase."
Looking back:
Welp, I guess the Jets decided that a good WR wasn’t worth having so that is just some more tough luck for Sam Darnold who looks poised to be the next player to suffer from playing on an Adam Gase led team.
Even with Mekhi Becton, I think this offensive line still has a long way to go and I have no idea what the plan is at running back with Frank Gore and Le’Veon Bell both on the roster. They obviously can complement each other, but way pay Bell that much money to let Gore take 150+ touches?
With Jamal Adams in Seattle, this defense could be bad again quickly but right now they are just competent enough to finish with 5 wins which is just the worst place to be for a franchise.
