Bobby McCain, DB

McCain was the slot man in Miami for a long time, but it looks like he is likely to spend this season on the bench. After trying to move McCain to safety to fit a round peg into a square hole, the Dolphins are out of places to try to play him.

This isn’t because McCain isn’t talented, but when they were trying to make a splash in free agency Miami signed Byron Jones to a massive contract and he and Xavien Howard (who is also on a monster contract) look ready to man the boundaries in 2020.

What makes it even more difficult to find a spot for McCain is that they also went out and drafted a cornerback in the first round last year.

With the three starting spots gone and with the transition to safety underwhelming, why not trade him to the Titans?

Kristian Fulton, Adoree Jackson and Malcolm Butler are all versatile cornerbacks, but none of them really thrive in the slot. Trading for McCain gives you a pure slot specialist and it allows you to mix and match differently.

In fact, one of the problems on the defense at the end of the season last year was the Titans’ depth at cornerback when Malcolm Butler and Adoree Jackson got hurt. A trade like this means that you can improve your depth and add a solid role player.
