John Simon, EDGE

This one has the Titans written all over it. Let’s start with why the Patriots would be motivated to make a move.

In the last two years, the Patriots have drafted three EDGEs including two in 2020, and while New England has lost bodies at that position as well, it doesn’t seem like a position you would spend three top-100 picks on if you already had one of those starting spots locked down.

The Titans have to be interested because Simon was with Mike Vrabel for his entire career in Houston. Both started their NFL careers with the Texans where Vrabel directly coached Simon to the most successful stretch of his career.

Tennessee doesn’t need depth at EDGE, especially if the Titans sign Clowney, but for my money, he is a better player than Kamalei Correa and he is more consistent. If the Titans can swing a trade to get Reggie Gilbert or Correa onto an NFC roster while picking up a Day 3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, then I would call up the Patriots in a heartbeat to replace them with Simon.

This year is about making the roster cheaper for about 75% of the teams in the NFL, and the Titans are lucky enough to have roster stability and cheap players to exchange for draft picks down the line.

Getting Simon for a conditional pick and potentially gaining two picks in the process of upgrading at EDGE seems like a dream.
