Cons to a trade

The biggest con is probably something that wouldn’t be seen until after the season, and that is Derrick Henry’s unhappiness.

I believe that it was the right move to give Henry the franchise tag and I think the Titans were intent on signing him to an extension, but when the pandemic hit and affected the cap for 2021 it made paying a running back much more difficult.

So if the Titans can’t figure out a deal with Henry, but they are willing to trade for Mostert and sign him to an extension to make him happy, you can see how this would upset the Titans golden goose.

Good intentions or not, I think if you make this trade you have to be comfortable with the idea of losing Henry after 2020.

Another big question is what does a contract look like for Mostert? At 28 years old, Mostert has only had one season with 100+ rushes after bouncing around to multiple teams before finally sticking with the 49ers.

Do you know why that sounds familiar? Because that is the exact same thing that happened with Dion Lewis before the Titans signed him!

The worst-case scenario here is that the Titans trade for Mostert, make Henry angry, Henry leaves in free agency, and the Titans are stuck with Dion Lewis 2.0 and that is enough to send chills down the spine of any GM.
