The Titans are a perfect fit for Chris Jones
I should say, there are 31 teams in the NFL who could make a case for trading for Chris Jones because he would be an immediate upgrade to their roster. The one that couldn’t is the L.A. Rams and that is because they might have one of the best defensive players in NFL history on their roster in Aaron Donald.
However, the Titans are so intriguing for Jones because the Titans are a team that seems to want to win ball games by doing three things:
1. Run the ball and control the tempo of a game.
2. Take shots when people overcommit to trying to stop the run.
3. Play great defense.
The Titans already check the first two boxes in Sharpie, but they could stand an upgrade on defense. Specifically, they could use more depth at DT and they need a blue-chip pass rusher.
With Jones, they would kill two birds with one stone. Like I wrote in the article I mentioned earlier from April, Jones is one of the best pass rushers in the NFL over the last two seasons. This is the list of the only starters in the NFL at any position that average more sacks and TFLs per game than Jones:
"DL Aaron Donald: 33 sacks (1.03 spg), 45 TFLs (1.25 tflpg) EDGE Danielle Hunter: 29 sacks (0.91 spg), 36 (1.13 tflpg) EDGE Cameron Jordan: 27 sacks (0.86 spg), 33 TFLs (1.03 tflpg) DL Chris Jones: 24.5 sacks (0.85 spg), 27 TFLs (0.93 tflpg)"
The Titans should be blowing up Kansas City’s phone right now asking them if they want to salvage some value from Jones now.
Some people may still be hesitant to trade a 1st round pick, but don’t be.
