A quick update on the Titans preseason plans.

Since the NFL has decided to cut the number of preseason games from four to two (with potentially more cuts pending), what does that mean for the Tennessee Titans?

Well, the team had already announced that all camps involving other clubs were canceled. That means that even if fans have a normal preseason except for the exclusions we have already talked about, then they would still only get to see the Titan face off against two teams before September.

As it stands now, the only game that there is a small chance that Titans fans might get to attend is the home game vs the New York Giants.

With the home game vs Chicago gone (which feels like a tradition at this point) that will be the lone time that fans get to see some of the Titans starters and quality depth play before the games start to count.

It is going to feel like one of the longest offseasons in history just because of the lack of moves in the offseason, other sports being canceled/delayed, training camp being reduced, and now the cancelation of two preseason games.

On the plus side, that means once we start to see football being played, every snap will matter even in the preseason. Two good games by a guy on the fringe of the roster could make a huge difference and maybe it keeps teams from overthinking the “potential” of bad players.

One storyline vs New York Giants

It is weird to talk about revenge games for other teams, especially in the preseason, but it is hard not to see this as a game where some of the Giants players might want to show out against their former team.

Dion Lewis, Austin Johnson and Alex Tanney all had different expectations when they joined the Titans.

Lewis thought that he would be a back who excelled in space and a game breaker as a backup to Derrick Henry. Johnson thought that he was going to be a premier backup DT who was a disruptive force behind Daquan Jones and Jurrell Casey.

Tanney had a better understanding of his position, but he probably wasn’t quite ready to be replaced by Luke Falk as the fringe QB on the roster.

None of that matters too much in the long run, but the fact is that this might be the last chance that some of these players get to make the Titans regret letting them walk. Also, for Johnson and Lewis it means that they will be basically playing a home game for their first game with the New York Giants.
