Detroit Lions – Desmond Trufant

The Detroit Lions took a huge hit to their secondary this offseason when they traded Pro Bowl CB Darius Slay to the Philadelphia Eagles for a 3rd and 5th round pick. Slay was very vocal about wanting to be out of Detroit after the team traded Quandre Diggs to the Seattle Seahawks.

"“We’ve been playing together five years,” Slay said. “Shoot, team captain, so I mean, for that to happen it’s kind of crazy but I guess that’s the business part of it. That was crazy, though.” “It basically say it don’t matter who you is,” Slay said. “No matter how much you put in, at the end of the day it’s a business so that’s how I just look at it. Nobody’s safe, in my opinion.” via Dave Birkett of Detroit Free Press"

The Lions drafted Jeff Okudah, who many considered the best cornerback in the draft, with the 3rd overall pick.

In addition to that they signed former Pro Bowler Desmond Trufant who was cut earlier in the offseason by the Atlanta Falcons.

Trufant has some injury history, but if he can stay healthy throughout the duration of his contract he could be a good contributor and mentor to first round draft pick Jeff Okudah.
