Baltimore Ravens – Derek Wolfe

After Michael Pierce and the Baltimore Ravens parted ways, it was no secret that the team needed to replenish the defensive line with capable run defenders. The Ravens made it a point to do so, trading the Jacksonville Jaguars for Calais Campbell. Campbell has been one of the best all around defensive linemen in the NFL over the past several years.

Considering Campbell was added via trade, Derek Wolfe is who I’m going to say is the Baltimore Ravens biggest signing this offseason.

A case could be made for DJ Fluker after Marshall Yanda’s retirement, but I believe the combination of Campbell and Wolfe on the defensive line will be huge for the Ravens. It seems as if the Ravens might be preparing for Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry by building their D-Line.

In 2018, Derek Wolfe had 43 total tackles throughout the season. There’s nothing special about that until you consider that he missed 0% of tackles that season.

This makes sense considering he had a career changing neck surgery in February of 2018 before the beginning of the 2018 NFL season.

"Plagued by nerve pain in his neck since 2013, Wolfe underwent foraminotomy neck surgery in February of 2018 and has felt like a new man ever since. “I can turn my head like an owl,” Wolfe told Denver’s 9News.com following his 2018 surgery. “It’s crazy. I can look all the way behind me. It’s insane. I feel so much better. I swear I couldn’t do a push-up during the season.” Wolfe turned 30 years old in February but says he feels much younger thanks to the surgery.
