Madden NFL 2001: Eddie George

As you might already know, just like Madden 21 is being released in 2020, Madden NFL 2001 was released in 2000. Eddie George had just come off what were his best two seasons in the NFL.

In 1999, George rushed for 1,304 yards and 9 touchdowns. Of course, the Tennessee Titans made it to the Super Bowl that season and George was a huge part of that. The Tennessee Titans were in major headlines at the time since 1998 was their first year after the move to Tennessee and 1999 was their first season since they changed from the Oilers to the Titans.

In 2000, Eddie George kept riding high off of the Tennessee Titans national hype by rushing for 1,509 yards and 14 touchdowns. This was easily his best season in the NFL by far. He was voted to the Pro Bowl for the 4th straight year and was voted 1st-team All-Pro for the first time.

So Eddie George was definitely deserving of the Madden 2001 cover. All of the national exposure from the move to Tennessee and the name change probably helped him get that extra boost to land on the cover. But it’s definitely cool he was able to be on it just two seasons after the team became the Tennessee Titans.
