Titans rookie Isaiah Wilson could teach Texans Laremy Tunsil something
Unlike Texans’ Tunsil, Titans’ rookie doesn’t commit many penalties.
Not all offensive linemen are created equal and no tackle in the NFL is perfect, not even Taylor Lewan with the Tennessee Titans or the Houston Texans’ Laremy Tunsil.
While Isaiah Wilson has his share of cons on the pros and cons list, he does something that both of those Pro Bowl tackles have struggled with in the past. Let me paint a picture.
We’ve all seen it. Your team is beginning to get things rolling on offense and it seems like they can’t be stopped.
Then, all of a sudden the zebra throws a penalty flag onto the field. One of your offensive lineman has committed a false start and now the momentum has come to a halt. It’s only 5 yards, but the pause in action combined with your team being penalized can slow down the offense just enough to force a punt or a field goal.
While it’s not game-breaking, a false start is just flat out annoying. Especially when one of your offensive linemen does it at least once per game. But no one could average that many false starts, right?
That is exactly what the Houston Texans have to deal with when offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil is on the field.
According to Pro Football Reference, Tunsil played 14 games in 2019 and finished the season with a whopping 14 false starts. This was almost double the player with the second most false starts, Germain Ifedi with 8. Ifedi played all 16 games in 2019, giving him plenty of more opportunities to false start than Laremy Tunsil.
Isaiah Wilson doesn’t false start like Laremy Tunsil
It almost seems like Laremy Tunsil is addicted to false starts and while he was praised in college for being able to “cut grass with his feet”, maybe these penalties suggest he was getting a head start on his kick slides.
Either that or he has a hearing problem, which seriously could be true knowing how loud some NFL stadiums can get. The good thing for the Tennessee Titans is the fact that they drafted Isaiah Wilson who was one of only 7 tackles in the SEC to commit one or fewer penalties in 2019.

There are questions regarding if Isaiah Wilson was worth a first round pick and if he will even make a good right tackle at all, but one thing is for sure, Wilson doesn’t often hurt the team in the form of penalties.
Consider the fact that Laremy Tunsil’s deal is worth about $66 Million and Isaiah Wilson’s total contract is only worth $11.6 million. Isaiah Wilson hasn’t played an NFL snap so as far as the talent, it is hard to say if he will be anywhere near Laremy Tunsil’s level.
One thing is for sure, you likely won’t see any Isaiah Wilson gas mask videos or see him committing false starts at the rate Tunsil does.
