Packers, Browns, Broncos boast scariest pass rushers on Titans schedule
By Will Lomas
5. Josh Allen, Jacksonville Jaguars
Matchup: Weeks 2 and 14
What Nick Shook had to say:
"It’s unrealistic to say Allen didn’t benefit from playing on a defense that also included Calais Campbell and Yannick Ngakoue, so 2020 figures to be a tougher test for him, with Campbell now a Raven and Ngakoue, who has yet to sign his franchise tag as of this writing, wanting out of town. Allen had quite a debut, though. Joining Bosa as a rookie Pro Bowl selectee, Allen used his athleticism and length to his advantage in 2019. His 10.5 sacks on 54 total disruptions places him among some of the most effective rushers in the NFL, but it also sets him up to receive more attention from offenses in 2020."
Josh Allen may be the player I am most interested in watching among the Titans’ AFC South rivals. On one hand, he looked like a star in college and he tested like a freak, so it was no surprise that he was as impressive as he was on a team that focused solely on getting to the quarterback.
On the other hand, it did surprise me to see him instantly put it all together and thrive in the role he was given. So much so that I think he helped the Jaguars feel safe enough to move on from Calais Campbell (even though they play different positions) and eventually Yannick Ngakoue.
The good thing for the Titans is that instead of spending time on a section here dedicated to other pass-rushing threats, I can remind everyone that the Jaguars will likely be without the majority of the factors that made that defense hard to pass against last season.
Campbell, Ngakoue, Jalen Ramsey, A.J. Boyue, and even Marcell Dareus are all gone. Instead replaced by rookies, cast-offs or busts. Hopefully, that leads to more shutout games like the Titans had against Allen in their second matchup last year instead of 2-sack games like Allen had when the Jags were at full strength.
