Indianapolis Colts
The Colts will look much different in 2020. With a new QB under center, it will be interesting to see how the Titans deal with Philip Rivers twice a year.
Quarterback:
If this was three or four years ago, the Colts would win this one. But Rivers is 38 years of age and looked like he lost a step or two last year in LA. Tannehill has the youth advantage and is clearly the better QB at this point in time.
Edge: Titans
Running Back:
The Titans have the rushing champ, but the Colts should have a sneaky good 1-2 punch of running backs. Jonathan Taylor joins Marlon Mack and pass-catching specialist Nyheim Hines in the Colts backfield. Titans get the edge because of Derrick Henry, but the Colts RB’s are no slouches.
Edge: Titans
Wide Receiver:
TY Hilton isn’t the receiver he once was, and behind him, there’s a lot of unknown. Parris Campbell could break out this year, and second-round pick Michael Pittman Jr. seems to have promise. The Titans have one stud, AJ Brown, and a couple solid complementary pieces. Pretty even here.
Edge: Draw
Tight End:
The Colts brought in former Bear Trey Burton to join Jack Doyle. That makes for a solid 1-2 punch of Tight Ends, meanwhile, the Titans will trot out Jonnu Smith to take over full-time for Delanie Walker. I believe in Jonnu, but for now the Colts have the edge.
Edge: Colts
Offensive Line:
Braden Smith, Mark Glowinski, Ryan Kelly, Quenton Nelson, and Anthony Castonzo give the Colts one of the top lines in the league. The Titans line isn’t bad, but it’s not as proven as the Colts’. Philip Rivers should have an easier time staying off his back this year.
Edge: Colts
Defensive Line:
The Colts traded for Deforest Buckner, and he will join the likes of Kemoko Turay, Grover Stewart, and Justin Houston. The Titans will deploy some combination of Jeffrey Simmons, Daquan Jones, Jack Crawford, and Larrell Murchison. Colts get the edge here.
Edge: Colts
Linebackers:
Darius Leonard is a stud, but I think the duo of Rashaan Evans and Jayon Brown, combined with Harold Landry III and Vic Beasley gives the Titans the edge here. The Titans have one of the best MLB duos in the league.
Edge: Titans
Secondary:
The Titans have one of the best secondaries in the league, even without Logan Ryan. The Colts brought Xavier Rhodes over from Minnesota, as he looks to have a rebound season. Other than that, there’s not much to be excited about in the Colts secondary. The Titans have the continuity and consistency.
