William Jackson III, CB
Two weeks ago, the Tennessee Titans depth chart at cornerback was four names long and included two guys who had never started in the NFL. Fast forward to today and the Titans are surprisingly deep at cornerback with Kristian Fulton, Tye Smith, Jonathan Joseph, Chris Jackson, and Ibraheim Campbell doubling up the depth chart.
While cornerback might not seem like a pressing need anymore, the Titans are just a year away from four cornerbacks hitting free agency and one carrying a $10+ million cap hit at 30 years old.
What I am saying is that it would be good to add some depth there, especially if the Titans could convince a younger player like Jackson to sign an extension now.
Jackson was incredibly effective in his first two seasons with a combined 27 pass breakups. As the Bengals fell off a cliff in 2019 he wasn’t quite as effective.
Still, Jackson is a 6-foot cornerback who ran a 4.37 and had 40 PBUs and 7 interceptions in 2 years as a starter with Houston in college.
There is no doubt in my mind that Jon Robinson would want him, and with Jackson scheduled to hit free agency after this season, there is a chance that the Bengals focus more on surrounding Joe Burrow with offensive talent going forward. That would mean more money on that side of the ball and letting guys like Jackson walk.
Why not make that decision a year early since the Bengals already signed Mackenzie Alexander, LeShaun Sims and Trae Waynes this offseason.
