Tennessee Titans benefit the most, but Seattle could be petty

The Tennessee Titans have the means to make this move and it sounds like teams are very close to just moving on and focusing on the guys they have in-house.

Mike Vrabel‘s experience with Jadeveon Clowney and Jon Robinson’s familiarity with him (drafting Jack Conklin in large part to help fend off the duo of J.J. Watt and Clowney in his first draft class) both are big factors in why the Titans still feel comfortable with this situation.

This would be the rare transformative move made post-draft that helps a team improve on every level.

Whether Clowney wants a one-year deal or a multi-year deal, it really shouldn’t matter to the Titans especially if they can sign him on a deal that connects him to the team for 2020 with any additional years pending on a physical.

If the Titans felt like they had Clowney in the bag already, but were just waiting for the compensatory pick deadline to pass, then suddenly their draft makes so much more sense.

The only thing that could mess up all of the Titans patient planning is that Seattle could be a little bit petty and let their emotions take over.

Despite additions to that position already, they could bring Clowney back and wait for the next free agency cycle so that Clowney could actually net them a compensatory pick. That is the sort of pettiness I respect, and they have the money to do it if they would rather use their money than sit on it for next year.

Still, from a pure practicality standpoint I believe that the right move for everyone is if Clowney signs with the Titans by tonight.
