Round 5 Pick 174: DL Larrell Murchison

Murchison, a 6’2, 294 lb DL out of North Carolina State, was the Titans’ fourth pick of the day.

Murchison isn’t the biggest interior lineman in the world, but he makes up for it with his high-energy play-style. Murchison had 7 sacks in 2019 for NCST, an impressive number for a defensive tackle. Murchison is probably too small to be a true nose tackle, so he will most likely slot in as the 3 tech, taking over for the departed Jurrell Casey.

While it would be foolish to expect Murchison to come in and immediately replicate what we grew accustomed to seeing from Casey, I do think he could be an impact player this season.

This pick makes me feel a little better about the depth, or lack-there-of on the d-line. After losing Austin Johnson and Casey, the Titans just need bodies.

If Murchison can rotate in as a situational lineman and contribute in run defense, this pick will be well worth it

However, Murchison is undersized, and likely won’t be an every-down player. I would’ve liked the Titans to go Receiver here, but nonetheless, another need checked off.
