Round 7 Pick 237

Steven Montez – QB Colorado

Montez could very well be gone by this slot but If not, Tennessee needs to roll the dice on the former Colorado quarterback. He is an Athletic quarterback with big upside if allowed to develop for a few years. He is Patient in the pocket, resilient and works to make something out of nothing when plays tend to breakdown. Montez often remains poised under pressure, possesses a big arm and easily gets rid of the ball with the flick of the wrist when given adequate time.

Montez has the arm strength to be able to get the football through tight windows, while also being elusive enough to escape the rush and take off upfield to pick up positive yardage with his legs when things fall apart around him.

Physically, he’s as complete as any signal-caller in this draft, but unfortunately for Montez he has had his fair share of inconsistencies in all areas of his game ever since he burst onto the scene as an impressive sophomore.

The University of Colorado product possesses great upside, but needs to be built from the ground up at the pro level if he’s going to succeed. I think he could be a great project quarterback for Arthur Smith and Pat O’Hara to groom into a potential QB2 down the line.
