Browns a real threat?

After 24 hours of no one other than the Titans left as true contenders, it was surprising to me to hear the rumors about the Cleveland Browns as a potential suitor for Clowney, come up again.

Maybe we had all underestimated the Browns, but this is almost a word for word copy of the Browns report from last week down to the “there is a belief that the Browns got closer than anyone else to signing him” quote:

Now maybe all this means is that the Browns were willing to sign him if the price was right with or without a physical from their doctors. That would make sense considering what we know about the potential hold up on the contract.

I doubt that half a million a year would keep the two from reaching a deal, especially at this point in the process where everyone is just ready to move on. So, between that and the wording of the quote, it makes me think that the Browns are still in on Clowney but that they thought they could win him over instantly and have since cooled off just a little bit on him.
