Why is it important to move up that far?

Losing on a second round pick is a pretty big deal, so you need to make sure you are getting something of value back in the trade. For the Titans, they get the chance to pick ahead of several teams that muddle mock drafts for Tennessee every time I see them.

I wrote a pretty in-depth article about this last week which you can find here.

But if you want some cliff notes, these are the teams mentioned:

-Baltimore Ravens

-Minnesota Vikings

-Kansas City Chiefs

-Philadelphia Eagles

-New England Patriots

All of those teams manage to get great value from their picks by landing sliding players that could help the Titans if they would just fall a little further, or they trade up to take players at a position of need for Tennessee which thins out their options at 29.

With the Titans now picking at 19, they would now select before any of those five teams which is a clear advantage. That means that the Titans now have the chance to shoot their shot and take more talented players instead of waiting and potentially trading out of the 1st round if the board falls wrong.

All of that is easy to say on paper, but it is clearer to show you the difference in the two situations in a 2020 NFL Mock Draft and go from there. As per usual, I will be using the PFN Mock Draft simulator.
