Undrafted Free Agents
While not a draft pick, I also wanted to take a look at Robinson’s history with undrafted free agents.
Surprisingly, a few of these guys brought in after drafts are still here: Isaiah Mack, Derick Roberson, Cameron Batson, Sharif Finch, Dalyn Dawkins, and Joshua Kalu. While none of these guys have been superstars, all of the aforementioned players have seen game time.
Derick Roberson has shown flashes, and Batson was the starting kick-returner for a stretch, with mixed results. Mack and Dawkins haven’t gotten many chances, but expect them to compete in camp.
Joshua Kalu has been the most valuable, saving the win against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 10 with a crucial blocked field goal. Kalu has developed into a crucial special-teamer for the Titans, and will likely continue in that roll in 2020.
These players were undrafted for a reason, but a great GM can look at a draft class that has already been ravaged by nearly 300 picks and come up with a shortlist of names that he believes will make a case to be on an NFL roster.
Consistently Robinson has done that by adding quality backups and role players to a roster that desperately needed rebuilding. Now that the Titans are contenders, I wonder if that makes it harder for this streak of good signings to continue?
For right now, I am going with Kalu as the best UDFA of Robinson’s tenure to date.
Best UDFA: Joshua Kalu
