Free agency: 1 player at each position Tennessee Titans should sign
By Ravi Konjeti
Safety
The Titans are so secure at the safety position that it’s laughable to even consider spending money on a free agent here. Kevin Byard is one of the best free safeties in the league. His ability to play pass coverage or stop the run is matched by few in the league.
On the other side, Kenny Vaccaro is a terrific veteran strong safety that can play coverage against tight ends and running backs while showing a keen ability to shut down the run. Arguably, the Titans have the best safety tandem in the league.
As added depth, Tennessee has Amani Hooker and Dane Cruikshank who have played sparingly, but well in limited snaps. While Hooker and Cruikshank might see more reps are cornerback due to the lack of depth, the Titans might consider adding a free agent to add extra depth. Tony Jefferson might be an interesting addition as a cheap, starting caliber player waiting in the wings.
Jefferson spent time with the Ravens for the past three years after starting his career with the Cardinals. Jefferson was starting for the Ravens prior to his injury this past season. While he lost his starting position after Chuck Clark took the starting job from him, Jefferson is still a solid safety that can play in the league.
The Titans might be able to sign him to a one-year deal; however, I think the Tennessee has bigger holes to fill first. With AFC contenders in the Chiefs and Ravens making moves, the Titans need to keep up to make sure they can make it back to the top of the AFC.
