Cam Phillips, WR

Age when the league starts: 24

Stats of note: Lead the XFL in receptions (31), yards (455) and touchdowns (9)

In the XFL there was Cam Phillips, then all other receivers way behind him.

Working with the league’s best QB it was probably easier for him to make plays with extra time, but he still ended up dominating every facet of the game.

He was so good in fact that early in the season he had a two week stretch where he had over 250 yards and 6(!) touchdowns.

So where did this guy come from, well it turns out that he was a “faller” in the 2018 NFL Draft according to Brent Sobleski. It seems like the former Virginia Tech star wasn’t fully healthy when he tested at his Pro Day and it hurt his stock:

"Sometimes, it can be better to sit out a pro day if a prospect’s coming off an injury. Virginia Tech’s Cam Phillips didn’t compete at the NFL combine as he recovered from sports hernia surgery. He instead worked out at Virginia Tech only 11 days after he was supposed to do so in Indianapolis. It didn’t go well. According to NFL Media’s Gil Brandt, the 6’0″, 199-pound receiver ran a pair of 40-yard dashes in the 4.87-4.89-second range. Obviously, the young man wasn’t ready to perform after having surgery in November."

Despite back to back 900+ yard seasons in college, Phillips went undrafted and ended up on the Buffalo Bills practice squad before joining the XFL.

Now healthy, it looks like Phillips is ready to make the jump back to the NFL even though you wouldn’t really know it by his unassuming frame (just 6’0, 202 lb.).
