2019 Stats:

  • 37 carries, 138 rushing yards
  • 42 receptions, 378 receiving yards

Washington Redskins running back Chris Thompson led all UFA running backs with 378 receiving yards in 2019.

Why is that important?

Well, for starters, Henry doesn’t have the best hands. Thompson has been one of the better pass-catching backs in the league for quite some time now, and of his 42 receptions this past season, 16 went for first downs.

In fact, since 2015 Thompson has never dipped below the 35-reception mark.

The former Florida State Seminole is as consistent a third-down option as you’ll find in the NFL. And while he’s getting up there in age (29), the Titans could use another guy like him to move the chains.

He is best in space, and when targeted, looks the ball all the way into his hands. The only real knock on Thompson is his inability to stay healthy.

Even so, it would surprise me if the Redskins don’t try to bring him back. But if they let him test the free-agent waters, I suspect the Titans will at least take a look.
