Tennessee Titans 1st round selection: K’Lavon Chaisson EDGE, LSU

Player left on the board I would have taken: Yetur Gross-Matos EDGE, Penn State

Their explanation:

"Any edge talent will do here for the Titans to pair with Harold Landry. Chaisson’s athleticism could be a weapon out of the gate for the Titans as he’s still developing his consistency as a pass-rusher. His 78.9 pass-rushing grade this past season was a career-high."

My thoughts:

This one just doesn’t make sense to me at all. By their own admission in their EDGE rankings, they think Chaisson flashes but that he wouldn’t rank as a top-7 EDGE for them.

You know who is ahead of him? Yetur Gross-Matos, an EDGE that they essentially describe as an ascending talent who is one of the most consistent in his class and who has refined his pass rush this year.

They also don’t think he is reached his potential yet, mentioning that if a coach can teach him to use his length and power a little bit better, it could make him even more dangerous.

This isn’t just a “consistent, might be even better than average someday” type of player either. Over the past two years, this is a list of Power 5 players ranked ahead of him in both sacks (17) and TFLs (34.5):

1. Chase Young EDGE, Ohio State (27 and 35.5)

2. Kenny Willekes EDGE, Michigan State (18 and 36)

That is the list.

I’ll take the incredibly productive, consistent, 3-down player with upside at a position of need if you don’t mind. Thanks.
