Find a replacement for Dion Lewis

It’s been two full seasons since Robinson brought Dion Lewis to Nashville after a Super Bowl season with the Patriots. And, two full seasons later, it’s clearly not working out for him in Tennessee.

The idea behind signing Lewis was solid: complementing Henry’s downhill running game by adding a speedier, pass-catching player to the Titans backfield.

The idea still makes sense, but Lewis hasn’t been the player to bring that vision to life.

For as excellent as Henry is with the ball in his hands, he’s limited by his weaknesses in route-running and catching passes. Lewis saw most of his action this past year coming in for Henry in obvious passing situations, but rarely ever got the ball, and failed to do much with it when he did.

Adding the pass-catching back the Titans wanted from Lewis would be a huge boost for the Tennessee backfield.

Henry would stay stronger for longer by not being forced into over 30 touches a game, the passing offense would keep defenses on their toes by adding another talented receiver, and the Titans would finally be getting some much-needed speed to their backfield.

Luckily, the Titans will have options for finding their replacement.

This year’s draft class is deep with skilled pass-catching backs like Zack Moss from Utah and Florida State’s Cam Akers. In free agency, Tennessee might look to target Arizona Cardinals running back Kenyan Drake, a proven receiving back who looked explosive last year in the Cardinals’ offense.

No matter how they approach it, finding depth at running back should be a high priority for the Titans’ GM this offseason.
