Former Tennessee Titans running back DeMarco Murray has been hired as the running backs coach by Oklahoma.

DeMarco Murray has been named the new running backs coach at Oklahoma.

The former Tennessee Titans running back will be returning to his alma mater to take the position, Oklahoma announced on Monday.

Murray reacted to the news on Twitter.

In 2019, Murray took his first step into coaching when he joined the coaching staff of Kevin Sumlin and the Arizona Wildcats. Prior to that, he was a commentator for college football with FOX Sports.

Murray spent four years with the Sooners, totaling 3,685 rushing yards and 1,571 receiving yards, with 63 total touchdowns. He is Oklahoma’s all-time leader in all-purpose yards and touchdowns, as the tweet above highlighted.

Murray was traded to the Titans from the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016 and spent his last two seasons in the NFL in Nashville.

His best season in Tennessee came in his first year with the team when he finished with 1,287 rushing yards and 377 receiving yards, with 12 total touchdowns. Murray was selected to the Pro Bowl that year.

Before playing with the Eagles and Titans, Murray played his first four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, which is where he really made a name for himself.

In 2014, Murray led the NFL in carries (392), rushing yards (1,845), rushing touchdowns (13) and yards from scrimmage (2,261). He was named a first-team All-Pro and was selected to his second Pro Bowl that year.

Murray announced his retirement from the NFL in July of 2018 after just seven seasons.
