It looks like there could be a complete rebuild coming in New England for the first time in decades. Take a look at the starters set to potentially test the open market this year:

Tom Brady

Devin McCourty

Kyle Van Noy

Jamie Collins

Joe Thuney

Ted Karras

You could understand why a rush to sign some of these guys to long deals may distract from a special teams player (who doesn’t do a lot for you on offense) hitting the open market, even if that guy is an 8-time Pro Bowler and a 6-time All Pro.

The Tennessee Titans front office has shown before that they are not afraid to go out and bring in special teams players as a priority. While the kicking game was the biggest issue last year, outside of Chris Milton and Daren Bates there wasn’t a lot of consistency in the kick coverage.

Mike Vrabel and Slater played together for a year and Jon Robinson was in New England for his first All-Pro season.

The connection is there and this is a move that they will absolutely be able to fit in no matter what kind of deals they give out to their own big free agents. If he hits the market, he screams future Titans player to me.
