Dion Lewis

2020 salary: $5.1 million

2020 dead cap: $1.1 million

2020 savings from cutting Lewis: $4 million

This is the easiest decision of the four.

Dion Lewis failed at both of his jobs this season. When needed to spell Derrick Henry on the ground, he totaled just 3.9 yards per carry. In what is supposed to be his strength — catching the ball out of the backfield — Lewis average just 6.6 yards per reception.

Now, you expect a backup running back to be a downgrade from the starter at least to some extent, but Lewis was too significant of a downgrade when Henry wasn’t on the field to take another chance on him next season.

Adding to that, Lewis will be hitting the magic number of 30 years old in 2020, the death knell of running backs. And to be brutally honest, it looks as though Lewis has already hit his end before even reaching 30.

The Titans would be wise to clear the roster spot and $5.1 million owed to Lewis in order to bring in a younger impact running back who can actually take some pressure off Henry. Lewis hasn’t been and will never be that guy.
