Chiefs Frank Clark is the latest to underestimate Titans Derrick Henry
Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Frank Clark is just the latest to underestimate how hard it is to tackle Tennessee Titans running back, Derrick Henry.
One thing has held true throughout the entirety of the NFL playoffs: it is hard to tackle Tennessee Titans running back, Derrick Henry.
Other teams, such as the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round, underestimated just how difficult a task that was and found out first hand (see: Earl Thomas) that it was no joke.
The next in line to make that mistake is Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Frank Clark, who on Friday said that taking down Henry was “just another tackle”.
Clark went into more detail, courtesy of Good Morning Football, via Jim Wyatt of Titans Online.
"“He’s not hard to hit. He’s just a big guy. 240, 245, 250, honestly he should be running hard at his weight and at his size. I don’t see no difficulty in tackling him… He’s just easy to me up front because I don’t look at any running back like they can’t be tackled. He’s not one of the best guys are breaking tackles to me honestly.”"
For your safety, Frank, you might want to take it a little more serious than that.
Clark and the Chiefs are among Henry’s victims this season. In Week 10, Henry steamrolled Kansas City for 188 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries in a 35-32 Titans win.
If we go back to the 2017 season, Henry roasted KC in the wild card game for 156 yards and a score, although that was before Clark joined the Chiefs.
More recently, Henry has had a legendary run in these playoffs. First, he torched the New England Patriots for 182 rushing yards and a touchdown, and then the Ravens for 195 yards and a passing touchdown, breaking multiple playoff records.
Dating back to Week 17, Henry has rushed for 180 yards or more in three straight games, which has never been done before in the history of the NFL. Dating back to Week 10 and including the playoffs, Henry has rushed for 100 yards or more in every game but one, and 149 yards or more in six of those eight games.
What makes Henry’s run even more impressive is that teams like the Ravens are completely selling out to stop him, know what’s coming, and still can’t even sniff keeping him in check.
A lot of credit has to be given to the offensive line, also. The big boys upfront have done a sensational job blocking for Henry in the second half of the season and playoffs.
But let these teams keep underestimating both he and the Titans because it’s exactly what they want and thrive off of.
