Optimism: Ability to control time of possession

One of the keys to keeping Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson in check is not actually letting him on the field. Thankfully for the Titans, they have a solution to do that.

As we saw last week, the Titans aren’t afraid to run Derrick Henry early and often. The Alabama product saw a season-high 34 carries last week, which resulted in 182 yards and a touchdown against the Pats.

The only issue was that the passing game couldn’t get anything going, thus a lot of drives stalled out despite Henry’s success, and the Titans only won time of possession by a little over two minutes.

Tennessee will need a similar approach this week with Henry against a Ravens defense that is ranked 19th against the run in DVOA, but will need more from Ryan Tannehill to keep the chains moving and the Ravens’ No. 1 scoring offense on the bench.

If the Titans can keep Jackson off the field, they’ll not only keep the Ravens off the scoreboard, but will also help keep their defense fresh to defend him.
