We already know the New England Patriots’ roster is littered with players who have playoff experience, but what about the Tennessee Titans?

The upcoming wild card game between the New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans is one of the more interesting matchups of the opening weekend of the playoffs.

While some analysts will tell you that the Titans have the edge over the Patriots when you look at each team’s roster top to bottom, there’s one area that the Titans don’t have an advantage.

Experience.

It doesn’t matter what sport you’re talking about, the story is the same. You can have all the weapons to win games in the playoffs, but experience and being able to handle the big moments can sometimes be the difference between winning and losing.

There are a slew of players on this Patriots roster that have not only been to the playoffs before, but have won a Super Bowl, or multiple in the instances of guys like wide receiver Julian Edelman and quarterback Tom Brady.

So, just how much playoff experience do the Titans have on their roster?

Jim Wyatt of Titans Online shared a graphic showing the list of Titans players who have played in the playoffs during their careers.

Tennessee has 23 players on the 53-man roster with a combined total of 77 games of playoff experience.

While there are several players on this list who have played in the playoffs for other teams, there are more who were with Tennessee during the 2017-18 playoffs when the Titans won in the wild card round and then dropped the divisional round game to the Patriots.

Guys like cornerback Logan Ryan and running back Dion Lewis both won Lombardi trophies with the Pats. Ryan was with Tennessee and Lewis was with New England when the Pats defeated the Titans in the 2017-18 divisional round game.

Left guard Rodger Saffold played in Super Bowl LIII with the Los Angeles Rams last season, and cornerback Tramaine Brock saw action in eight playoff games from 2011-13.

Head coach Mike Vrabel has a ton of experience as a player, but this will be his first rodeo as a head coach. Defensive coordinator Dean Pees is well-seasoned coaching in big games, while offensive coordinator Arthur Smith will make his postseason debut calling plays.

Two of the most important players on the Titans’ offense aren’t on this list. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill and rookie wide receiver A.J. Brown are both making their playoff debut on Saturday.

Tannehill was a member of the 2016 Miami Dolphins team that made the playoffs, however he wasn’t able to play in the wild card game due to injury.

Now, is experience the end-all, be-all of playoff football?

Of course not, but it certainly helps to have guys who have been there before. I think it’s safe to say there is enough experience and veteran leadership with a background of winning big games on this roster that the Titans will be just fine.
