If it were up to Pro Football Focus, Tennessee Titans wide receiver A.J. Brown would be the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year.

It has been quite the season for Tennessee Titans rookie wideout A.J. Brown, who has exploded onto the scene as one of the best young players in the NFL in 2019.

After being selected in the second round (No. 51 overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft, Brown has emerged into the Titans’ No. 1 receiver and one of the best big-play threats in football with his special ability to gain yards after the catch.

The Ole Miss product finished his rookie campaign with 52 catches for 1,051 yards and nine total touchdowns (eight receiving). He is the first Titans pass-catcher to cross the 1,000-yard mark since tight end Delanie Walker in 2015, and is the third rookie in franchise history to do so.

Among rookie receivers, Brown finished fifth in catches, first in receiving yards, first in average yards per catch (20.2), and tied for first in touchdown receptions. His eight catches of 40 yards or more was also tops in the league among first-year wideouts.

Because of all that, Brown is considered one of the front-runners for the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year, and Pro Football Focus definitely agrees.

In fact, according to Cam Mellor, Brown is PFF’s choice for the award.

"Brown utilized an incredibly strong second half of the season, notably with Ryan Tannehill as his quarterback, and edged out several other worthy rookies to be selected as PFF’s Offensive Rookie of the Year for 2019."

As Mellor also points out, since Tannehill grabbed the reins in Week 7, Brown has taken off and earned a grade of 90.0, which puts him third among all wide receivers in that span and in the company of guys like Michael Thomas and Julio Jones.

That’s right, Brown hasn’t just been a great rookie, he’s been an elite wide receiver overall.

Before the start of this season, the Titans would have just been happy to see Brown be a solid No. 2 behind fellow receiver Corey Davis, but instead the rookie has not only surpassed Davis in the pecking order, he’s become one of the most exciting players in the league to watch.
