Nice: Jeffery Simmons, DT

It is hard for a defensive tackle who isn’t involved in the pass rush game to really impress me.

For a long time my stance has been that if you spend a first round pick on a defensive tackle,he has to do one of two things. He either needs to be able to tangibly raise the performance of the EDGEs and linebackers around him or he needs to be a TFL machine.

I didn’t know how a nose tackle from stacked Mississippi State defense with a torn ACL was going to be able to do that at a high level early in his career. And then he played his first game.

From the first snap you could see the power he had and what Simmons did to ruin the game plans of opposing offensive coordinators. Relentless power and a massive frame make him impossible to stop, and on the few pass rush situations that Simmons sees he makes quarterbacks incredibly uncomfortable.

What a steal.
