Short term needs

Like I said earlier, this pass rush is anemic and a lot of that lack of production falls on the shoulder of Dean Pees who is calling extremely conservative game plans.

With a defense that seems to be built around refusing to rush more than four players, the Titans need guys who can get to the quarterback by themselves. Regardless of anything else, Titans fans have watched Finch get to the quarterback consistently throughout his career.

This year was no different and Finch actually had 2 sacks on 101 pass rush attempts. Now granted, next to Roberson’s 2 sacks in 9 pass rush attempts that doesn’t seem great. But let’s look at that in context with all the EDGEs on the roster that have registered a sack.

Harold Landry: 9 sacks on 516 snaps (1.7% sack rate)

Kamalei Correa: 4 sacks on 159 snaps (2.5%)

Cameron Wake: 2.5 sacks on 181 snaps (1.4%)

Sharif Finch: 2 sacks on 101 snaps (2%)

Derick Roberson: 2 sacks on 9 snaps (22.2% lol)

Reggie Gilbert: 1 sack on 168 snaps (0.6%)

While more snaps generally dilute a players sack rate, it is still impressive to note that he was one of the Titans better pass rushers when he was on the field.

Another way to put Finch’s win rate as a pass rusher into perspective is that only one EDGE in the NFL has more sacks on 101 rush snaps or fewer. That player is Dion Jordan with 94 rush snaps.

So, in terms of nothing more than a rotational pass rusher or someone to give the other EDGEs a breather the stats clearly say that Finch was someone who you could rely on.
