Titans’ kicker problem continues

Titans kicker Ryan Succop was once thought of as an automatic whenever called upon to get points on the board for his team. However, it has become extremely evident ever since his injury that his better days may be behind him.

The kicker, who is also known as a former ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ for being the last pick in the 2009 NFL draft, has kicked his way to a solid 10-year NFL career.

However, anyone who has watched him as of late can tell that he does not have the same leg that once made him a beloved figure in Tennessee. The team has also shown a growing disbelief in Succop’s ability to drive the ball after recently signing a second kicker in Ryan Santoso to handle kickoffs and quite possibly longer field goals.

As much as the former Mr. irrelevant has done for this franchise in the past, it may be time to move on. He has gone 1-for-4 on his field goals since his return and there is nothing in his play to suggest that he is getting better.

The team is wasting a roster spot on two kickers when in reality the team seems to have cut the best kicker on the roster thus far in Cody Parkey once Succop came off the injured reserve list.

Although a small sample size, Parkey went a perfect 3-for-3 in his field goal attempts during his time as a Titan. It may be time to consider ending the Succop/Santoso project and get back the only kicker who has shown any bit of competency thus far.

If the Titans are going to make a serious run come January, they must find someone who can provide some consistency in the kicking game.
