Rodger Saffold

There has been no offensive lineman on the Titans more embattled than Rodger Saffold this season, and he was clear that it was getting to him after Tennessee’s Week 10 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

After having already crossed the threshold of allowing more sacks than he did all of last season while a member of the Los Angeles Rams, Saffold was looking like a bust for the four-year, $44 million contract he got in the offseason.

However, Saffold has actually been one of the Titans’ better offensive lineman of late. Saffold has been in the top five for Titans offensive players in Pro Football Focus grade in two of the last three games, and he was the No. 1-graded player in Week 13.

Overall, Saffold has a solid PFF grade of 71.7 this season.

On Sunday, the Titans allowed six sacks, and none of those were given up by Saffold, who was a sieve earlier in the season. Furthermore, Derrick Henry has been running wild of late, and Saffold certainly has a lot to do with the improved run blocking the Titans have seen lately.

I don’t want to say that Saffold’s issues are entirely fixed, but he has certainly earned a ticket out of the dog house of Titans fans with much better play in the second half of the season.
