Lesson No. 5: A problem at kicker

When a team is carrying two kickers on Sundays, you know there is a problem.

In Week 13 against the Colts, the Titans had both Ryan Succop and Ryan Santoso active, and it was Santoso who was handling kickoff duties with Succop having struggled to get enough length on his kicks for touchbacks.

As far as the kickoffs were concerned, Santoso was a success, as five of his six kicks went for touchbacks.

That’s all well and good, but what exactly is going on with Succop that the Titans need to carry a second kicker? Does this mean that the Titans will have to depend on Santoso, a guy who is basically off the street, to kick a long field goal in a crucial situation because Succop doesn’t have enough pop to get it done?

Unfortunately, we didn’t find out exactly what the Titans plan to do on long field goal attempts because the only try was kicked by Succop successfully from 31 yards out; however, this is a concerning situation to monitor going forward.
