Last week, we had tight end Delanie Walker’s stock on the rise simply because we thought he was set to return. Well, that didn’t happen and instead the Titans decided to “err on the side of caution” and give their starting tight end another week to get right.

The disappointment of Walker’s fourth-straight absence was amplified by the fact that backup tight end Jonnu Smith produced a donut in Week 12 despite playing on 50 of 53 snaps.

Smith’s overall lack of production the last three weeks is good news for Walker, as it means the veteran will not be phased out of the offense with Smith failing to assume control of the role of the top pass-catching tight end.

While we’re optimistic for Walker’s chances of playing this week, there should still be some concern for him in Week 13. After an extended absence, there’s a chance Walker will be eased back in and have his snaps limited, and that could make him touchdown-dependent.

However, if we had to choose one Titans tight end to roll with this week assuming both of them play, we’d still trust Walker more than Smith.
